In my quest to eat healthier... I decided a pressure cooker is the way to go.... I've always been the one holding out the plate and when I did
cook for myself I opened a lot of cans.... always wanted to take the time to cook, but found other things more interesting... then a month or
so ago I got this book from amazon that told about all those words on processed food labels that I'm unable to pronounce... after three days
of looking up every can box and bag at my place I decided that I was going to give up eating.. that lasted about 24 hours...on with my quest
A few weeks ago I picked up a Presto C603A 6 quart pressure stainless steel cooker at the flea market. Figuring I'd I could try out pressure
cooking and then upgrade my PC or if I did not fall in love with it, sell it and get my money back. I did some online reading and downloaded
a few presto manuals.
I could see that if you did not pay attention you could get hurt with a PC, sort of like pulling out of your driveway with your eyes closed.
I respect my pressure cooker.
Did not learn about the test drive until a few days ago. But managed to use my PC 4 times and learned to turn down the burner pretty good.
Have not burnt anything and only a small scorch one time. I want to cook up a large amount of whatever I make so I don't need to do the
"cook thing" each day, but hopefully once a week or so and then freeze my meals.
I did not want a 4 quart, figured it might be to small (I'm a bachelor), picked up the 6 quart at the flea market, it seals up pretty quick, but a
new seal and air vent if I continue to use this PC is on my list.
Some how I missed the part in the Presto 4 quart 6 quart manual and the 8 quart manual, the part that says, all these recipes are for a four
quart PC, then I found the part that said for the 6 quart increase ingredients by 1/2 and while I don't have the 8 quart, I would double the
ingredients. Fortunately I spoke with my girlfriend and she mentioned not, I repeat not to double the cooking time.... Hey, I'm new at this.....
So, In my searching, I am avoiding the electric PC's, I'm looking at the
are some problems with where the Fagor is made Spain or China since it appears that the China PC does not come up
to 15 PSI and on amazon, there seems to be some problems with the pressure adjustment and handle breakage.....in the
entire line of the Fagor PC's.
I just want to make an intelligent decision. I could be purchasing new or used. I seen a Fagor on ebay with a broken handle that
ended up by the time you paid ebay and ordered a new handle, it cost more than a new one at amazon... go figure?
I guess my main questions are, if I replace the seals and vent parts in my 6 quart Presto, how much better is the new 8 quart Presto?
And if I go for a Kuhn Ricon 7.4 quart are you if you have one 5 times happier than with a standard PC.
Any suggestions of any brand of pressure cooker for me to look at.
I'm looking for some "What would you do" things to help me make my decision. Fortunately my PC seals up in about 2 min, in other words
I have some water leakage around the seal as I am approaching "steam", then it seals off and does fine... then again, I'm new at this... and
am just overjoyed at the Black Bean soup I have made....
Oh, I bought two heat diffusers, one is star shaped out of a thick wire and the other is round with a bunch of holes and a wood handle,
when do I use them?
Thanks,
And thanks for posting (if you do),. it will help me make up my mind, oh and I am reading the other posts and topics also.
