Need help with magefesa Please! |

I bought a used magefesa the kind sold at fairs etc. I didn't get any instructions and when i called AccuPro inc. to order manual/ask questions I was told if I didn't buy it new they would not sell me any instructions parts etc. I'm not sure how to tell when it is up to pressure, if its broken, or if something is missing. When I clamp the lid on and apply heat steam releases thru a small spout in the top the longer the heat is on the more steam that comes out when i reduce heat the steam stops. I can see straight thru this spout. Is there something missing? Does anyone know how I can get parts/manual? It seems that Magefesa is hurt there customers that pay top dollar for a PC that they can not turn around and sell to some one else if they don't like it because the next person can't get parts. I wonder if they tell you this when you buy it for $200 - $300 your stuck with it.

magefesa makes several different models, and without knowing which one you have, here's some general comments.
It does indeed appear that you are missing something, and from what you describe it sounds like the pressure regulator. If I'm correct, without a this key component part the unit will not pressurize and that rather makes it useless as a pressure cooker. I should think that your first point of contact would be the seller, if you've lost the info and you bought this at a fair then contact them for the name of the vendor. I'm completely at a loss as to why any merchant would refuse to sell their products based on what you say, that's sure to hurtstheir future business and do far more damage in alienating potential customers. Business for Fun and Profit 101... oh well, it's their loss not yours. Unfortunately, magefesa is available in far fewer retail outlets than many other brands of good-quality pressure cookers (in one of the main reasons why I can't recommend them), which makes finding parts a challenge even without the obstructionist tactics of some retailers. Try looking for parts at Amazon.com, and Eurostoves: www.eurostoves.com/search...ry&cat=229 If this is your first go-round at pressure cooking it would be helpful to have the owner's manual so you can check the spec list or diagram to be sure your not missing any other pieces and parts. If you can correctly identify the model you have, then also post a request for an owner's manual under that topic as well. Good luck in your search. |

I'm quite sure it is a magefesa supercooker 6 qt, I purchased on ebay. After
I received it, I found it on www.accuproinc.com/magefesa.htm and contacted them to purchase a manual and cookbook, thats when I was told if I wasn't the original purchaser the not only wouldn't sell me parts or a manual they wouldn't even sell me a cookbook! Since then I have discovered there is a part missing now I'm stuck. Thanks for your help Rod |

Rod, I hate to add more bad news, but I think you've got a bigger problem that you first suspected. The magefesa supercooker is a pressure fryer, not a standard pressure cooker.
For safety purposes as a pressure fryer, it operates at a much lower pressure setting than a pressure cooker. If memory serves, I believe the supercooker uses 10psi rather than the standard 15psi. While you can use this model for pressure cooking, you will need to modify every recipe to fit the limitations of this special purpose unit. This will work better for some foods than others, although the results may be somewhat disappointing when compared to the same recipe finished in a standard pressure cooker. Since most pressure cooker recipes are designed for the standard pressure setting of 15psi, you must increase the cooking time by 33% to make up for the difference in the lower pressure setting. In my opinion that defeats the whole purpose of pressure cooking. Please help! Magefesa Super R Fast Pressure Cooker - Is this model really usable as a Pressure Cooker/Canner/Fryer? | #4 | ||
|
Please let me know if you can assist me with the Magefesa Star R Fast Pressure Cooker I just purchased. I've seen so many displays at the state fair
over the years and finally purchased this "Supercooker" Magefesa. When I purchased my first Magefesa (Favorit model:Super Fast Pressure Cooker), I
knew it wasn't the one that was on demo at the fair for canning but was determined I'd step up to the big kahuna "one day".

Unfortunately, I have some bad news: you have purchased a non-standard pressure cooker (more
below), but its not a pressure
canner
and it cannot be substituted for one. I've seen a disturbing trend with some manufacturers trying to claim that their pressure cookers serve a dual purpose
as a canner to uncrease sales, but this is not supported by the facts. Perhaps the pitchman did a bit of embellishing to increase his sales, because even the
owner's manual clearly labels this item as a pressure cooker and there is no reference to canning.

Thank you for responding to my post. This is perfect and just what I needed to know. I'm glad I didn't take it out of the box and will check the link
you sent me to purchase a sufficient pressure cooker that I need. Now that I'm in the market, I'll also purchase a pressure canner for canning.
Thanks again.

Will the Magefesa Star R model work ok as a pressure fryer?

No, Magefesa makes several different models, but the Magefesa Star R model is a standard pressure cooker with 3 pressure settings: 6 psi, 9 psi, and 15 psi.
Many people see the locking bar on the Magefesa and a few other pressure cooker brands and associate that feature with pressure fryers which also use that same safety design. Magefesa only has one model that is labeled for use as a pressure fryer, the Super Cooker, and there is only one US distributor. The same is true of Fagor's one model that is a pressure fryer, the Pressure Magic. |

Where would a person find information (product manual) on either the Magefesa Super Cooker or the Fagor Pressure Magic? I've looked at both of their USA
websites, and they have no information on either of these models. These models aren't even mentioned, nor are they on their european websites. It's
like they don't exist. I downloaded the Star R manual and indeed it tells you not to use it as a pressure fryer. So far, I've only been able to locate
two places to purchase these cookers, Accupro and Pro Solutions, and they have little information on them other than to say that they are ok for pressure
frying.
As an aside, the Magefesa Star R is being offered for sale new on Ebay with a note saying it is ok for pressure frying, which is obviously incorrect. |

You'll have to contact the distributor, and those are the only ones I know of, about their product specs, or a manual, to find out more detailed
information.
As far as EBay goes, I think the caveat, "Let the buyer beware," should be your motto. The sellers are interested in one thing; making the sale. If they tell you what they think you want to hear, whether by artful deceit or in eager ignorance -- and lets be real... very few people can speak with any certain knowledge about the functions and usage of a pressure cookers -- if your job as the buyer to know the product you are buying. At least you found out before you purchased something unsuited for your intended purpose. |
