Fargon Pressure Cooker vs Lagostina

Posts: 3 Sep 13 06 4:46 PM	Tags : None Remove this ad I'm looking to buy my first pressure cooker and wondered if anyone had any exerperience with either the 7L Lagostina Stainless Steel pressure cooker or the Fargon Duo. Fargon DUO (6L) fastcooking.ca/pricing.htm Laostina (7) www.sears.ca/gp/product/B...nodeid=APS I live in Canada and I can't afford to purchase the ones I think where recomended on this site; www.ashtongreen.com/produ...0_7&fc=ADP If anyone has any feedback or advice on the purchase of either the Fargo or Lagostina pressure cooker I'd greatly appreciate it. They both seem to have good construction (thick stainless steel), safety release valves, and aluminum in the bottom for heat distribution. I'm leaning towards the 7L Lagostina because of cost and size. Thanks in advance for any advance you may be able to offer. Best Regards, Rene

Registered User Posts: 1500 Sep 14 06 9:04 AM Owner	I've always recommended the Fagor as a reliable and dependable kitchen workhorse, and as such it placed a close second the my top recommendation for the Kuhn-Rikon. You can find some a useful guideline on How to Buy the Best Pressure Cooker, which will help narrow your choice. One significant point you'll find is that the Fagor is readily available through many sellers, as are the replacement parts. On the Lagostina, they have that rather odd lid design where it is bent into the top of the pot body which makes pouring the contents difficult and adds to the clean-up chores.

Posts: 3 Sep 15 06 5:15 PM	Thanks, I've decided to pay the extra few $$ for a Fagor. I called Lagostina to verify the PSI rating of the unit and found out that it varied from 9-12PSI. What really happened is one rep gave me the 9PSI over the phone, and another rep got back to me by email and told me it was 12PSI. Not sure which one is correct? However, they both seem to be lower than 15PSI which I believe is optimal for pressure cooking. I also don't like the lid thing much either. You wouldn't happen to know if the following site is a reputable dealer for pressure cookers would you? Or maybe you have a dealer you prefer in Canada? fastcooking.ca/pricing.htm Anyway, thanks for your advice. Rene P.S. Your site is full of useful information!!!

One of the nice things about this brand is the large number of accessories available in set combinations or as added options you can purchase later as your budget allows. I use Amazon and recommend their large selection of pressure cookers and canners... plus just about anything else you could dream of. However, amazon.com does not deliver their kitchenware to Canada, and amazon.ca does not carry any kitchenware like pressure cookers, etc. I would have purchased the 8 piece set that included on 8L Fagor pressure cooker with numerous accessories. Posts: 1 Oct 31 06 3:27 PM	Rene, I was looking at the Lagostina owner's manual recently while at a store. It said that the pressure of their single-pressure pressure cookers is actually only 0.55 bar or 8 psi! I bought my Fagor at fastcooking.ca. Great service. No problems. Jean

Registered User Posts: 2 May 4 11 1:01 PM	Remove this ad My Brava cooker "exploded" this past weekend while cooling down from use. Burned my hand quite badly. Reuqired emergency treatment at hospital. Now we're wondering what went wrong and if it's safe to continue to use it. The cooker appeared to be pressured down, with no more air coming from the open steam valve. When the handle was released, an explosion of hot water burst out from the lid which released immediately upon releasing the handle. I thought the design was supposed to prevent this, keeping the flexible lid closed until pressure inside neutralized. What do you think went wrong? Rick Schmidt
